Title: Bridging Back from the Future

Abstract: This panel will provide an overview of how distributed energy resources (DER), the built environment, and emerging standards are shaping the evolution of the electric grid. It highlights major trends—decarbonization, decentralization, and democratization—and explains how increasing electrification of buildings and transportation is transforming both system operations and stakeholder roles. We will introduce GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC ) work products and how they can be applied, including systems-thinking approaches for regulators, grid architecture methods, and white papers focused on energy services interface, sector coupling, and future-state grid planning to ensure a reliable, affordable, and decarbonized energy ecosystem.
